In V Rising, the sun is your greatest natural enemy. As a vampire, exposure to direct sunlight during the day can result in rapid health loss, and potentially, a fiery death. Managing your exposure to sunlight is critical to surviving and thriving in Vardoran.
This guide explains how the sunlight mechanic works, how to protect yourself, and how to plan your activities during daylight hours.
Why Does the Sun Hurt?
As a vampire, you are highly sensitive to sunlight. Remaining exposed to the sun during the daytime will:
- Cause burning damage every second (approximately 10 HP per second).
- Quickly lead to death if no shade is found.
- Display visual warnings such as:
- Smoke or fire particles on your character.
- A growing beam of light from the sky.
- A screen glow and brightening effect.
You’ll usually have a 3–4 second warning to seek cover before damage starts.
How to Avoid Sunlight Damage
The best way to avoid damage is to stay in shaded areas. Shade can be cast by:
- Trees
- Cliffs and rock formations
- Buildings and castle walls
- Bridges or ruins
- Mist from braziers
Important: The sun moves across the sky dynamically. Areas that are shaded now may become exposed later. Keep moving and stay aware of shifting light angles.
Strategies for Daylight Survival
1. Stick to the Shadows
- Plan your exploration routes using forests, ruins, and natural shade.
- Move quickly through sunlit areas, such as open bridges or plains.
- Avoid engaging in combat in direct sunlight unless absolutely necessary.
2. Avoid Daytime Combat (When Possible)
- If you’re outside and a battle begins in open sunlight, retreat to the shadows.
- Try to lure enemies into shaded areas to fight on your terms.
- Reserve larger fights and boss encounters for nighttime hours when you’re safe from the sun.
3. Use the Mist Brazier (Base Protection)
Once you've built a castle, you can protect it with a Mist Brazier:
- Found under Build > Production > Fundamentals.
- Cost: 120 Stone
- Fuel it with Bones to activate a sun-blocking mist.
- Covers a moderate radius, keeping the area cool and shaded.
Tip: The mist will dissipate when the brazier runs out of bones. Be sure to refill it regularly. Place multiple braziers for full courtyard or work area coverage until your base has a roof.
4. Build a Roof (Later Game)
- Once you’ve upgraded your castle and constructed full walls and flooring, you’ll gain access to roofs, which provide permanent sun protection.
- A fully enclosed castle interior offers 24/7 safety from sunlight, regardless of time of day.
Day/Night Cycle Planning
The in-game day/night cycle in V Rising lasts 18 minutes in real time:
- Daytime (Sun Exposure): 12 minutes
- Nighttime (Safe): 6 minutes
Time of day is displayed in the top-right corner of the screen. Always plan your:
- Boss fights
- Resource runs
- Exploration
…around nighttime to avoid the dangers of the sun!
Summary: Sun Safety Tips
| Action | Effect |
| Stay in shade | No sun damage |
| Use Mist Brazier | Creates artificial mist for sun protection |
| Build a roof | Permanent indoor sun safety |
| Avoid combat during day | Reduces risk of burning mid-battle |
| Plan night activities | Safest time for fights and exploration |
