If you are experiencing frequent connection problems or rubberbanding (where your character appears to “jump” or lag backward repeatedly), these issues can often be improved by adjusting game settings and optimizing your system. Below are recommended steps to help you stabilize your connection and gameplay.
1. Reduce Background Threads via In-Game Console
Reducing the number of background threads can improve stability on some systems:
- Launch V Rising.
- Enable the in-game console by navigating to: Options > General > Interface > Console Enabled (toggle this on).
- Open the console by pressing the key below Escape on your keyboard (e.g., § or `, depending on your keyboard layout). JobThreads 1
- This limits background threads to 1, potentially reducing lag and connection instability. To revert to default settings, open the console again and type: JobThreads 4
2. Disable Autosave Compression
Disabling autosave compression can speed up save operations and reduce lag spikes caused by saving:
- From the Load Game menu, select your server.
- Click the Go to Directory button to open the folder containing your server files.
- Locate ServerHostSettings.json (make a backup copy before editing).
- Open the file with a text editor such as Notepad.
- Modify the file as follows:
- If "CompressSaveFiles": true exists, change it to false.
If not present, add the following line before the closing brace } (make sure the previous line ends with a comma): "CompressSaveFiles": false
- Save the file and restart the game.
Note: Disabling autosave compression will increase save file size on disk but can improve performance and reduce rubberbanding caused by save operations. This setting only applies when you are hosting the server locally (e.g., single-player or self-hosted server). It will not affect performance when you're playing online or on a dedicated server hosted by someone else.
3. Flush your DNS
Go to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRising\CloudSaves\<ID>\v4\<YourWorldFolder>
Edit the "ServerHostSettings.json" file. (We recommend backing it up first)
Add the following lines in the middle of the file (after the max player count):
"AutoSaveInterval": 120,
"CompressSaveFiles": false,
Then flush your Windows DNS using the command prompt:
ipconfig /flushdns
Additional Recommendations
- Check your network connection: Ensure you have a stable internet connection with minimal packet loss or latency spikes. Use a wired Ethernet connection if possible.
- Close bandwidth-heavy applications: Streaming, downloads, or other network-intensive programs running in the background can cause lag and rubberbanding.
- Restart your router and PC: Sometimes simple resets can clear temporary network issues.
- Verify game files: Steam > Right-click V Rising > Properties > Installed Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files.
- Keep your game and system updated: Ensure V Rising, your GPU drivers, and operating system have the latest updates installed.
