If you and your friends are playing V Rising on a private server and one player is experiencing network connectivity issues (e.g., poor upload speeds, lag, or hardware limitations), you may want to transfer the private server save files to another player to act as the new host.
This guide will walk you through step-by-step on how to successfully transfer your saved world from one player to another.
Can I Transfer My V Rising Save to Another Player?
Yes! V Rising allows players to manually transfer their private server save files, which lets another player host the same world with all shared progress intact (castles, map exploration, etc.).
⚠️ Important Note: While the world and structures are transferred, individual player progress (inventory, levels, powers, etc.) is tied to each Steam or PlayStation account and is not transferred. Players will retain their own character data when reconnecting to the same save from their original accounts.
Step-by-Step: Transferring Save Files to a New Host
Locate the Save Files on the Current Host's PC or access them directly through the In-Game User interface when selecting a save file:
On the current host’s computer, navigate to the following folder:
Local Saves Path: C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRising\Saves\v1\
CloudSaves Path: AppData\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRising\CloudSaves\<YourSteamID>\v4\
Tip: Each subfolder in this location (e.g., AutoSave_1, World_2, etc.) represents a unique saved world. Identify which folder contains the save you wish to transfer.
Zip the Save Folder
Once you've found the correct folder:
- Right-click the folder
- Select "Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder"
This will create a .zip file, which makes it easier to transfer and keeps the file structure intact.
Transfer the Save File
Send the .zip file to the new host using a secure method such as:
- Google Drive
- Dropbox
- WeTransfer
- External USB drive (if local)
Ensure the recipient extracts the .zip file after downloading.
Place the Save on the New Host's PC
The new host should place the extracted save folder into this directory:
Local Saves Path: C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRising\Saves\v1\
CloudSaves Path: AppData\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRising\CloudSaves\<YourSteamID>\v4\
If the Saves\v1\ folder doesn't exist yet, the player can create it manually or launch the game once to generate the necessary directories.
- Launch and Host the World
Once the save files and settings are in place:
- The new host should launch V Rising
- From the main menu, select "Continue Game"
- Choose the transferred save (the world name should be recognisable)
- Start the session and invite the other players
Everyone should be able to join the world just like before, with castles, territories, and map status preserved.
